Juneteenth, also called Emancipation Day or Jubilee Day, marks the end of slavery in Texas on June 19, 1865, when federal troops arrived to announce emancipation. Additionally, the Juneteenth celebration that Black Seminole descendants, the Negros Mascogos, descendants of Black Seminoles who also escaped the brutality of the antebellum South has been kept alive in Mexico for over 100 years. The event is held just south of the Texas border in a village known as El Nacimiento de los Negros, in Coahuila, Mexico.
